JB Cutting would like to congratulate 6 Salon owned by Tomy Lulgjuraj, Johnny Nikollaj and George Nikollaj, based in Birmingham, Michigan, for capturing the grand prize at the 2014 Salons of the Year interior design competition sponsored by Salon Today Magazine. You may be wondering why a wood component processing company such as JB Cutting would be blogging about a beauty salon. Simple! We cut the components (per the architect’s specs of course) for the front of the reception desk and for the black freestanding station cabinets, in addition to machining other components throughout the salon. M1/DTW is the architect and is well known for their creative designs throughout the Detroit area. Their website www.m1dtw.com features some of their amazing projects!
The reception area (black pieces) and freestanding station cabinets were machined out of a material called SkidGuard®, which is a high-density overlaid plywood. SkidGuard® is an excellent choice for this application because it is high-strength, yet lightweight and also features water and humidity resistance. It also contains very low formaldehyde and meets CARB requirements.
The salon is sleek and contemporary while being inviting and spacious at the same time. The owners’ comments sum it up well:
“Our copper mesh curtains and ceiling-suspended styling stations create a comfortable environment and open floor plan. This visually sets the tone for our clients to feel relaxed and connected to everything going on around them.”
Congratulations again 6 Salon and M1/DTW! Not only are your designs architecturally beautiful, the functionality behind them really is outstanding!
